Ma Ma Creek PG3/HGNov

Airspace limit 8500' (2590mts), 4500' (1371mts) if R625C is activated via NOTAM

Ma Ma Creek is one of our most often used sites. It is a novice site. It is closed on Sundays. It is now limited to 12 pilots .

The launch lies South East of the Toowoomba range. It has multiple launches which can accommodate directions from N-NE. There are also more launches on the same hill allowing S-SE, and NW launches. The track up is strictly 4 x 4 only and may be unusable after rain. The main NE Bomb Out is small and has power lines along its Northern boundary. Bomb out map indicates the only approved site LZs.

The site has a wind station installed on it which means you can check wind strength and direction from the comfort of your lounge.

Real time wind readings available at: www.freeflightwx.com/mama/

There are strict conditions governing the use of this site, and due to some careless individuals we are on the verge of losing this site. You must read the site signage and comply with it completely. You must also monitor the club Whatsapp forum and be aware of any changes to procedure. Refer to Whatsapp group description which will contain the latest info. Ignorance of club and site rules will not be tolerated and may cause the loss of this site and your flight privileges.

Important: Drivers must not produce excessive dust nor exceed 40kph along the gravel road leading to Mama. Local residents are monitoring us and if you are reported, all pilots in the offending vehicle will be banned from using the site.

NEW Info: The site entry gate must be closed at all times, even if you find it open. This gate must be locked at the end of the day, contact committee members for key location. All in-property gates MUST be left as they were found, the exceptions are the last 3 gates before the South launch, all of these are inter-property gates and must be closed.

NEW Info: Plan and reduce the number of vehicles taken up to launch. If you bomb out wait for at least another pilot before taking another vehicle up to launch.

Note: When texting the landowners you will also be required to include the rego of the vehicle you came in.  Everyone entering the property must do this, not just pilots.

"Tip for keeping sites. Act as if you owned the property."

Stringybark lies between Ma Ma Creek and the Toowoomba range. It is a lovely open launch that offers fantastic ridge soaring and the ability to top land. It takes a NE-SE direction. The track up is strictly 4×4 only and may be unusable after rain.

The mid-slope Bomb Out is small, sloping and cross wind, not suitable for HG, Paraglider pilots must be PG5 to attempt landing here. The bottom Northerly Bomb Out is out of reach for most paragliders but should be reachable by Novice Hang Gliders/pilots. The central narrow Bomb Out is within reach for all pilots, noting that there are powerlines along its Easterly boundary. This Bomb Out may not be suitable for landing advanced HGs. The North Easterly Bomb Out (the original B/O) is a small B/O surrounded by fences, sheds, a creek and multiple electric fences and star pickets. It is PG2 suitable and ADV HG only.

Real time wind readings available at: www.freeflightwx.com/stringybark/

Any flight over the back will enter CTAF and requires the pilot to carry and use VHF communications.

You must inspect and consult with the relevant SOs or duty pilot before attempting to land at any of the sites Bomb outs. Bomb out map indicates the only approved site LZs.

Mt Storey PG3/HGNov

SITE CLOSED UNTIL ALTERNATIVE LAUNCH FOUND

Mt Storey lies to the west of Toowoomba. A sealed road right to launch for this one! Just a small hill but we use it a lot, especially in winter when winds are prevailing westerlies. A novice site which often provides a good get away for XC flying on a good day. The Bomb Out is spacious but slopes into the prevailing wind, it is also flanked by power lines on the Western and Northern boundaries.

Pilots are required to check with Oakey ATIS on VHF 124.3 or call 45777235 to verify that Oakey airspace is not active.

This site lies within Toowoomba CTAF, so even with Oakey “Deactivated”, pilots are required to carry and use VHF. A call isn’t required if just ridge soaring but must be made if leaving the launchsite on an XC flight.

Pilots are reminded that the only exit from the B/O is via the SW gate. Please remember to drive very slowly past the bomb-out owner’s house. (located between the B/O and the ridge)

Parking at launch should be adjacent to the community park, do not obstruct residents’ driveways.

While on launch, please respect the privacy of neighbouring properties by keeping your voice down.

Wilson’s PG5/HGAdv

Wilson’s launch faces NE on the edge of the Toowoomba range. It is a narrow, single chute launch so it can be tricky. Pilots must ensure that leaves on trees on both sides of the launch chute are moving prior to launching.

The Bomb Out is a small and narrow area on a ridge top. PGs are able to land closer to the road however multiple fences preclude HGs from landing in other than the designated B/O. There is a top landing directly behind launch and also an airstrip landing zone to the West of launch.

This is a rarely used site and as such will usually require some trimming of undergrowth before launching is possible.

Bomb out map indicates the only approved site LZs.

The club also administers five sites in the Killarney area. This is a beautiful area to fly. The club holds weekends away when the weather is suitable to fly here. Sites vary in rating and a site briefing is essential before flying.

Hoffmans launch is assessable by 4WD only. You need to be organised to use this launch and B/O as there is no phone reception at B/O.

SE launch - The launch area extends back across the road to the fence therefore no cars are to be parked behind launch. Please park your cars to the South of launch. It is 2WD access.

Speak to our club Executives for more info on Killarney sites and also read the Killarney Guidelines below.
